The Golden Circle is a well-known route in western Iceland that features three sites of great significance: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. In addition to these iconic stops, the tour also includes a visit to the striking volcanic crater lake of Kerið, known for its vivid colors and unique landscape. This day tour offers a comprehensive journey through some of Iceland’s most remarkable natural and historical landmarks, sharing insights into the country’s rich heritage and breathtaking scenery along the way.
The Golden Circle remains one of Iceland’s most popular day tours due to its accessibility and variety of attractions. Þingvellir National Park holds immense historical importance as the site of the world’s first parliament and the Silfra fissure, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart. Gullfoss, often called the golden waterfall, is one of the largest and most stunning waterfalls in the country, while the Geysir area offers a geothermal spectacle with frequent hot spring eruptions. It’s important to note that Kerið crater is only included in early morning tours and is not visited on departures at 12:00 or later.
