Join me, Lucas—a passionate local and experienced guide—for a delightful culinary adventure through the heart of Utrecht. Our meeting point is in front of Danel, a restaurant located beside one of the city's most iconic music venues. Look out for my big orange umbrella—it’s hard to miss! After a warm welcome and a quick introduction, we’ll begin a tasty tour filled with authentic Dutch flavors, cultural tidbits, and hidden gems that even some locals might not know about.
We’ll kick off with a visit to the market to watch fresh stroopwafels being made right before your eyes—from dough to warm, gooey cookie. Then, you’ll get to taste some of the Netherlands’ world-famous cheese and learn about the historical castle that once stood in the area. As we stroll deeper into Utrecht’s charming city center, you’ll get to try a Dutch snack of your choice from a traditional "snack wall", taste the iconic pink pastry known as “tompoes”, and even peek into a secret church-turned-beer café. Of course, no Dutch food experience is complete without sampling crispy bitterballen and ending on a sweet note with freshly made poffertjes—mini pancakes that are simply irresistible.
Vegetarians are more than welcome on this tour, as most dishes have equally delicious meat-free versions. However, due to the dairy-heavy nature of the tour, it’s not suitable for vegans—but don’t worry, Utrecht also offers a dedicated vegan food tour if that’s what you’re looking for! Rain or shine, the tour will go on unless extreme weather hits, and I’ll be sure to update you beforehand if anything changes. So bring your appetite and curiosity—I can’t wait to share the flavors and stories of my hometown with you!
