Picking Roses Workshop & Extracting Rose Oil in the Rose Valley

Step into the heart of Bulgaria’s centuries-old tradition with a tour dedicated to one of the country’s most cherished symbols—the oil-bearing Kazanlak Rose. Grown only in this unique region, the rose has long been known as the “flower of the gods.” During this immersive experience, you’ll join local rose-pickers in traditional folk costumes and take part in the magical ritual of rose picking at sunrise. Enjoy the authentic flavors of the region as you're treated to rose sweet, gulovitsa (rose-infused drink), and fragrant rose liqueur.

The journey continues with a visit to an old house where you’ll witness the ancient art of distilling rose oil and extracting rose water, a process passed down through generations. You’ll explore the traditional Bulgarian way of life, meet locals who share their customs, and learn how rose products like soap are made during a visit to a real Bulgarian Rose factory. Please note that due to the natural rose blooming cycle, the tour itinerary may vary slightly. The experience takes place in two beautiful destinations—Karlovo and the Damascena complex near Kazanlak—based on the best timing for rose picking.
