Prepare for an unforgettable journey into the depths of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the world’s oldest and most unique underground marvels. Your tour begins with assistance from a tour leader who will help you with entry to the museum. To reach the underground level, you'll walk down 800 stairs, descending 135 meters below the surface into a cool, dimly lit world shaped entirely from salt. Over the course of up to 3 hours, a licensed museum guide will lead you through a fascinating 2.5-kilometer route, exploring intricate chambers, ancient chapels, and beautifully carved altars—all made entirely of rock salt.
As you walk through the mine’s winding passages, you’ll gain insight into centuries of mining history and the daily lives of the miners who once worked here. The Wieliczka Salt Mine extends more than 327 meters deep and stretches over 287 kilometers of horizontal tunnels and chambers, many of which remain unexplored by the public. The rock salt here is naturally a greyish tone, often resembling raw granite rather than the sparkling white salt you might expect. Your tour concludes with a ride back to the surface in a traditional miner’s elevator, giving you a small taste of the experience once lived by the workers of this historic industrial wonder.
