The tour begins with a scenic drive northward from Durban along the coast to the renowned Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, located in the heart of Zululand. After approximately 2.5 hours, you’ll arrive at the park’s entrance, where your experienced guide will take you on a thrilling wildlife safari in a closed vehicle. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi is South Africa’s oldest game reserve, established in 1895, and spans 98,000 hectares of diverse terrain characterized by rolling hills and thriving savannah. The park is home to the famous Big 5—Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhinoceros—along with an extensive range of other wildlife and bird species. The northern section, Hluhluwe, is especially noted for its rich biodiversity, while the southern Imfolozi section is globally recognized for its pioneering work in White Rhino conservation. The park’s Centenary Capture Centre continues to lead the way in animal capture and sustainable wildlife management practices across Africa.
Midway through your adventure, the guide will stop at Hilltop Camp for lunch (at your own expense), offering a peaceful break with stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. The camp’s restaurant, perched at the top of a hill, is the perfect place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the reserve. After lunch, the safari continues with more game viewing opportunities as you traverse through various habitats in search of elusive wildlife. With your knowledgeable guide providing insights into the park’s ecology, animal behavior, and conservation efforts, this tour offers a rich and immersive experience of one of Africa’s most historic and ecologically important reserves. After a fulfilling day in the wild, you will make your way back to Durban, bringing your unforgettable safari experience to a close.
