Today, your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your city hotel by our professional driver-guide. You will embark on a scenic journey northward to Volcanoes National Park, located in the Musanze district, which lies at the foot of the Virunga Mountain range. The drive takes approximately 2 to 3 hours and offers breathtaking views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, rural villages, and lush landscapes. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will be welcomed by park officials who will provide a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette, safety guidelines, and conservation efforts. After this orientation, you will be assigned to a specific gorilla family group to track, based on your fitness level and interests.
Accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, you will venture into the dense forest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. The trek can vary in length, ranging from 30 minutes to up to 8 hours, depending on the location and movement of the gorilla group you are tracking. Along the way, you will experience the rich biodiversity of the park, including rare plant species, birds, and possibly other primates. Once your group locates the gorillas, you will be allowed a precious one hour in their presence—an awe-inspiring and humbling encounter as you observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, interacting, feeding, and displaying their social behaviors.
After spending this unforgettable hour with the gorillas, you will trek back through the forest to the park gate, where your driver awaits. From here, you will be taken to a nearby restaurant or lodge to enjoy a well-deserved lunch and share your trekking experiences. In the afternoon, you will depart Volcanoes National Park and return to Kigali, arriving in the early evening. Upon arrival in the city, you will be dropped off at your hotel, concluding a truly remarkable day immersed in one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in the world.
