South Albania attractions in one day from Tirana - Small group

After an early departure from Tirana at 06:00, our journey begins through the heart of southern Albania to explore three remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our first notable stop is in Vlora, a coastal city known as the City of Independence, where Albania declared its independence in 1912. As we continue our drive along the scenic route, we pass the breathtaking Llogara Pass, which opens up to panoramic views of the Albanian Riviera. The coastal beauty leads us to Saranda, a vibrant seaside town, from which we proceed to the Butrint National Park. This ancient site was once a Greek colony, later a Roman city, and eventually a bishopric center in Epirus. It is rich with archaeological remains that tell the story of thousands of years of history and civilization.

Leaving the cultural wonder of Butrint behind, we travel inland, making a special stop at the mesmerizing Blue Eye Spring. This natural phenomenon is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and deep, blue hues that give the impression of an eye looking up from the earth. It serves as a refreshing and awe-inspiring pause in the journey and is a favorite among nature lovers and photographers.

Our final destination is the historic city of Gjirokaster, a UNESCO-listed town known for its stone architecture, deep-rooted traditions, and flavorful cuisine. This city has played a significant role in Albania's cultural and political history, being the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, the communist leader, and Ismail Kadare, the country’s most famous literary figure. We’ll enjoy a short guided city tour, followed by a visit to the imposing Argjiro Castle, the largest fortress in Albania, offering expansive views and rich historical insights.
