About this activity

Tour has prepared for you a surprising itinerary, a wonderful blend of nature and culture that reveals how life can still follow the rhythms of nature and the seasons in the remote and enchanting village of Theth. We begin our journey early in the morning, meeting our guide directly at the hotel. After a scenic drive, our first stop is at Qafe Thore, a beautiful panoramic viewpoint and once an ancient guard post that offers breathtaking views of the Albanian Alps. From there, we continue our journey through dramatic mountain landscapes until we reach Theth, nestled deep in the valley, around 11:00 AM. Upon arrival, we are welcomed at a traditional hostel, known locally as a "bujtina," where we are introduced to the warm hospitality and customs of the locals. After a delicious lunch featuring local specialties, our exploration of the ancient village begins.

The guided walking tour through Theth allows us to absorb the peaceful atmosphere of this untouched gem. We first visit the Church of Theth, originally built in 1892 and restored in 2005, which still serves as a spiritual center for the community. As we walk through the village, we see its iconic stone houses with wooden roofs, and eventually reach the "Kulla e ngujimit" or Lock-in Tower. This tower holds a deep historical and cultural significance as it once provided refuge during blood feuds (gjakmarrja), a now mostly bygone Albanian tradition of family honor. This symbolic structure stands as a poignant reminder of the country’s complex past. After taking in the serenity and rich heritage of Theth, we begin our return journey in the afternoon, heading back to Shkodër with memories of a truly authentic and moving experience.
