Discover the peaceful beauty of Lapland in summer with a guided canoeing adventure through its serene lakes and rivers. Finland, often called the Land of a Thousand Lakes, is home to over 188,000 lakes—many of which are nestled in Lapland's untouched wilderness. As you glide quietly over the calm waters, you may spot local wildlife such as geese, swans, cranes, and otters in their natural habitat. This relaxing activity is not only a great way to connect with nature, but also a respectful and eco-friendly way to explore this Arctic region.
Your experience begins with an introduction from a qualified canoe guide, who will teach you the basic techniques of canoeing and provide essential safety instructions. You’ll learn how to handle the paddles, steer your canoe, and what to do in case of capsizing. With your guide always nearby to assist, you can enjoy the journey with confidence. As you paddle through the peaceful waters, take in the scenic views and feel the tranquility that Lapland’s nature offers from a unique water-level perspective.
After your canoeing session, you’ll return to shore to warm up around a traditional Finnish campfire. Here, your guide will serve typical campfire snacks and demonstrate how to build and light a fire using flint and steel—no matches or lighter needed. This is also a great moment to learn more about Lapland’s nature, culture, and life in the Arctic. The tour lasts around 3 hours, including transportation, canoeing, and the fireside break. With small groups of no more than 8 participants, this tour offers a personal and immersive experience, far from the crowds of mass tourism. At Wild About Lapland, we believe the smaller the group, the bigger the adventure.
