After breakfast, we will depart from the hotel and begin our journey to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Our first stop will be at the South Gate, an impressive entrance adorned with rows of statues depicting gods and demons. From there, we’ll move deeper into the city to explore the magnificent Bayon Temple, built in the 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Bayon is particularly famous for its richly detailed bas-reliefs that illustrate daily life during the Khmer Empire and for its iconic towers, each bearing the serene, smiling faces that watch over visitors from every angle.
The tour will then continue to several other remarkable sites within Angkor Thom. We will visit the grand Baphuon Temple, an architectural marvel that once represented Mount Meru in Hindu mythology. Afterward, we’ll explore the Elephant Terrace, used by kings for viewing public ceremonies, and the Terrace of the Leper King, known for its mysterious and intricate carvings. We will also pass by the remains of the Royal Palace, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Khmer royal life. Our morning exploration will conclude with a visit to the enchanting Ta Prohm Temple, famously known as the Tomb Raider Temple, where giant tree roots weave through centuries-old stonework, creating a breathtaking scene of nature reclaiming history.
To wrap up the morning, we’ll enjoy a relaxing and delicious lunch at a local restaurant inside the Angkor Archaeological Park. This will give you time to unwind, reflect on the morning's discoveries, and prepare for the next chapter of your Angkor adventure.
