The tour starts at the school center in Diepholz and follows the river through the town, gradually passing areas where houses become fewer and the landscape grows more natural. Paddlers will soon reach the Hengemühle weir, which can be portaged on the left side, although it requires some effort. This weir serves as a good resting point to gather strength for the next part of the journey. Beyond Hengemühle, there is a roughly 500-meter stretch of river that is often overgrown with weeds, making navigation a little tricky. After this, the water clears again, leading to the Hoopen weir, which has a convenient portage point on the right side for safe passage. Paddlers then pass through the village of Drebber and approach the Cornau weir, which must be portaged on the right bank because paddling it is prohibited for safety reasons.
From Cornau, the route continues a short distance to the campsite in Ihlbrock, where participants can pitch their own tents or rent one of the wooden barrels provided for accommodation. If the water level on the Flöthe river is sufficient, the tour can alternatively begin at the rest stop at Eggers Bridge, adding about 5 kilometers to the route, or start from Diepholz town hall. Along the way, paddlers can enjoy the changing river landscapes, quiet stretches, and small villages, making the journey both scenic and enjoyable. This route combines moments of relaxation with occasional challenges, such as portaging at weirs and navigating overgrown sections, offering an engaging and varied canoeing experience.
