We’ll begin our journey by departing Edinburgh and crossing into the historic county of Fife, heading north toward one of Scotland’s most dramatic coastal landmarks—Dunnottar Castle. Perched atop a rugged cliff overlooking the North Sea, this iconic fortress played a vital role during the Wars of Independence in the 14th century and was famously seized by Robert the Bruce. Its breathtaking location and rich history have inspired artists, writers, and filmmakers alike. After exploring Dunnottar Castle, we’ll continue to the nearby town of Stonehaven. There, you’ll have time to enjoy lunch (not included) and take in the scenic contrast between Aberdeenshire’s rolling farmlands and its wild, rocky coastline.
Our tour then continues to Glamis Castle, a stunning architectural gem steeped in legend. Famously known as the place where King Duncan was murdered by Macbeth, this castle is rich in eerie tales and royal history. As we admire its striking towers and pinnacles, we’ll delve into its stories of mystery and ghostly encounters. From Glamis, we’ll head to the coastal city of Dundee to visit the RRS Discovery, the ship that carried Captain Scott on his first Antarctic expedition. Finally, we’ll journey back to Edinburgh, passing through the scenic regions of Perth & Kinross, crossing the River Tay, and driving through Perth, once the ancient capital of Scotland.
