Experience an authentic Japanese cultural lesson at a peaceful 300 year old temple in Miyajima, located just a short 5 minute walk from the ferry port, yet away from the crowds. This tranquil setting offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese customs. The lesson begins with dressing in a kimono, allowing you to embrace the full cultural experience. Following this, you’ll participate in a traditional tea ceremony, guided by our skilled tea master in an authentic tea room. You’ll taste sweet and matcha tea, learning the proper manner to enjoy it, and then, it’s your turn to make your own tea. You’ll discover the names of the utensils used and the technique for whisking matcha, deepening your appreciation for this ancient ritual.

The cultural journey continues with Japanese calligraphy, which was introduced from China in the 6th century. Under the guidance of our experts, you’ll learn to draw intricate lines with a brush, carefully copying Chinese characters. You’ll then write your name on a traditional rice scoop, a symbolic item in Miyajima believed to bring good luck. Throughout the lesson, we capture your experience through photographs, which you can receive by answering a brief questionnaire. This enriching cultural experience combines kimono wearing, the tea ceremony, and calligraphy, offering a truly memorable and immersive introduction to Japanese traditions.
