The Saxons Heritage Tour of Transylvania is a fascinating four-day journey that takes you deep into the heart of Romania’s medieval history, culture, and legend. This immersive experience allows you to step back in time and discover the story of the Saxons, German settlers who arrived in Transylvania in the 13th century and built fortified churches to defend their land against foreign invasions. The adventure begins in Bucharest, heading to Sinaia to visit the stunning Peles Castle, one of Europe’s most beautiful royal residences, followed by Bran Castle, famous worldwide for its connection to the Dracula legend. The day ends in the medieval city of Brasov, where you will explore the picturesque Council Square and admire the impressive Black Church, the largest Gothic structure in Eastern Europe. The next day, the tour continues with visits to UNESCO-listed fortified churches such as Prejmer and Viscri, as well as the impressive Rupea Citadel. You will travel through the charming countryside, discovering centuries-old architecture and traditions that have shaped Transylvania’s unique identity.
The following days bring even more wonders as you visit the UNESCO-listed citadel of Sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, and enjoy its charming medieval streets and panoramic views from the Clock Tower. You will then continue to Biertan, home to the largest fortified church in Transylvania, and learn about the village’s creative way of preserving marriages in the past. The journey also includes stops in Medias and Sibiu, both rich in history and architectural beauty, with Sibiu once holding the title of European Capital of Culture. On the final day, you will explore Sibiu’s historic center before returning to Bucharest, stopping at Cozia Monastery, a remarkable monument of medieval art. During the summer, the route may include the breathtaking Transfagarasan Road and a visit to Poenari Citadel, the real fortress of Vlad the Impaler. With a mix of history, legends, and authentic Romanian charm, this four-day tour offers an unforgettable exploration of Transylvania’s Saxon heritage and its timeless beauty.
