No vacation to the Dominican Republic is complete without a hunt for local treasures, and this shopping tour offers the perfect opportunity to discover the rich variety of arts and crafts the country has to offer. Begin your day with a visit to the world-famous Altos de Chavón, a charming Mediterranean-style artist village where cobblestone streets, artisan shops, and stunning architecture create a memorable backdrop for your exploration. Along the way, stop at a local market to observe how Dominicans purchase their daily groceries, gaining insight into the vibrant culture and daily life of the community.
The tour continues with an educational glimpse into the Dominican tobacco industry, where you can see firsthand how cigars are crafted by skilled artisans. Guided by professional tour guides and accompanied by an experienced driver, you’ll also have the chance to purchase authentic Dominican products such as coffee, rum, cocoa, and cigars at excellent prices. Don’t miss the opportunity to find beautiful souvenirs made from Larimar and Amber, unique treasures that reflect the heritage and natural beauty of the island. Great place for shopping and groceries.

Our guide,Jose, was extremely knowledgeable and spoke English and 5 other languages. The Altos de Chacon stop was breathtakingly beautiful. The negatives were that in the email confirmation the pickup time was 7:30am, but they showed up at 8:45 am. the other big negative for me was the shopping in La Romana was not at a Dominican Jumbo, but at a tourist trap with prices even higher than at our resort, both these negatives were explained as a mis print in the description and the booking confirmation.
NOMADA

I never did it. They went ahead and didn't warn me.

My first time to the Plaza while on vacation. It was clean and not crowded. There were really nice items to buy. If I’m ever in the area again I will update with pictures for you all to see.
Salty

GetYourGuide

Had an unexpected included boat excursion on the Rio Chavón which was very pleasant. The trip to cigar factory interesting but I don't smoke. The chocolate factory was more a chocolate sampling chocolate tasty but very expensive, The trip to Altos de Chavón which was billed as the highlight and shopping experience was very rushed no time to visit the artist studios-shops. Only has 1/2 hour here rushed to amphitheatre the fountain and church then out. No map provided for the group tour. Should have at least 1 & 1/2 hours here. The time at the handicraft market and commercial grocery store adequate. Not sure we really had a tour of the city La Romana.
